DALLAS - Rep. Karen Boback (R- Lackawanna-Luzerne-Wyoming) commended the General Assembly for adding language to encourage schools to test for lead as part of the package of bills that made up the state budget. The particular budget bill that included this language is known as the Public School Code. Included in the legislation is language that requires schools to supply safe water if testing concludes that the supply is found unsuitable.

DALLAS - Rep. Karen Boback (R-Columbia/Luzerne/Wyoming) has announced her office will hold a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Seminar featuring state Secretary of Aging Teresa Osborne. The event will take place on Friday, July 20, at the Wyoming County Active Adult center located at 101 Dymond Terrace in Tunkhannock. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 11.

HARRISBURG - Rep. Karen Boback (R-Columbia/Luzerne/Wyoming) voted in favor of the 2018-19 state budget bill, House Bill 2121, which passed the House overwhelmingly, 188-10. The plan was a bipartisan compromise that includes no new or increased taxes or fees and comes in below the rate of inflation.

HARRISBURG – To address the critical need for increased civics instruction in the Commonwealth, Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) introduced House Bill 564, which would require school districts to administer a locally developed assessment of U.S. history, government and civics. The bill passed out of the House Education Committee unanimously on Monday.

Since the Flint, Michigan, drinking water disaster, data shows that Pennsylvania tops the list of states for elevated lead levels in school and day care drinking water. This legislation will help address this threat, and if passed, set some of the strongest safeguards of their kind in the nation.
