Marcellus Shale Information

How we regulate and oversee natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale could define our Commonwealth for generations to come.  As a life-long resident of Pennsylvania’s coal region, I realize that we have to get it right the first time because there will not be any second chances to protect our air, water and other natural resources.

I have been an outspoken advocate for legislation to safeguard Pennsylvania’s natural resources and have drafted bills to increase safety standards for drinking water, waterways and soil.

I also am in favor of impact fees for drilling companies, but any tax or fee levied on the extraction of natural gas must directly benefit the protection of our water and other natural resources, as well as focus on the communities with infrastructure directly impacted by the industry.

I have come out against forced pooling and eminent domain because I believe it infringes on a landowner’s rights.

The following links contain useful information about natural gas drilling and how our Commonwealth is handling drilling oversight.
