Boback Applauds Enactment of Castle Doctrine

Corbett signed legislation into law today

On June 28, Rep. Karen Boback (R-Columbia/Luzerne/Wyoming) attended the bill signing of House Bill 40, known as the Castle Doctrine.  Boback advocated the measure for several years and supports the legislation, which will protect the right of law-abiding citizens to defend home and family from criminals.
Rep. Karen Boback (R-Columbia/Luzerne/Wyoming) released the following statement today regarding Gov. Tom Corbett’s signature of House Bill 40, which is known as the Castle Doctrine legislation:

“As a co-sponsor of this legislation and an avid supporter of Second Amendment rights, I applaud the governor for signing this bill.  Today represents a major triumph for law-abiding citizens, who should have the right to defend themselves against violent attackers.  For too long, the scales of justice have been tipped in the favor of criminals, but this new law returns balance to our system.

“A person faced with a physical threat should have the right to defend himself or herself without fear of civil or criminal reprisal.  If an individual is being attacked and faced with a deadly threat in a home or vehicle, or in any place where he or she has a right to be for that matter, the individual should be able to use whatever means necessary to ensure the preservation of his or her life.

“I have heard from so many residents of my district who are enthusiastic supporters of this bill.  I am very pleased to be able to report that it is now the law of the land.  We have waited a long time to see this legislation enacted, and we are finally successful.”
