Boback, American Heart Association to Speak About Infant Pulse Oximetry Bill at Capitol Press Conference

WHAT:           Rep. Karen Boback (R-Columbia/Luzerne/Wyoming), together with the American Heart Association, will host a press conference to raise awareness of House Bill 1420, which would require pulse oximetry testing for newborns.  The simple blood-oxygen test is one of the best ways to detect potentially life-threatening congenital heart defects or CHD.  CHD affects approximately eight of every 1,000 live births. They are the most common birth defects in the U.S. and the leading killer of infants with birth defects. Nearly one in three infants who dies from a birth defect has a heart defect.

WHO:             Boback, officials from the American Heart Association and congenital heart defect survivors and their families.

WHEN:           Tuesday, Sept. 24, 10 a.m.

WHERE:         Steps of the Pennsylvania Capitol, Third Street, Harrisburg.  In the event of rain, the event will be held in the Ryan Office Building Atrium, 451 North Third Street

Media contact: Nick Ruffner, 717.260.6258.
