Boback Searches for Korean War Veterans from the 117th Legislative District
9/5/2018
TUNKHANNOCK – State Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) is looking to recognize residents of the 117th District who are Pennsylvania veterans from the Korean War era.

“Approximately 200,000 Pennsylvanians served in the Korean Conflict, with nearly 37,000 of them losing their life during their service,” said Boback. “My hope is to pay tribute to the men and women who represented our interests overseas in the early 1950s.”

Boback is accepting applications for the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal, an expression of appreciation from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea. Eligible veterans must have served between June 25, 1950, and July 27, 1953, or have participated in United Nations peacekeeping operations until the end of 1955.

“All applications must be accompanied by a Notice of Separation or DD-214 discharge document, signifying service in Korea.” Boback added.

Applications are available at Boback’s district offices in Dallas and Tunkhannock, and must be received by Friday, Sept. 21. The medals will be presented at her annual Veterans Event and Expo on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Misericordia University.

The 117th District includes all of Wyoming County, Dalton Borough and Benton, La Plume and West Abington townships in Lackawanna County; and Dallas, Fairmount, Franklin, Harveys Lake, Hunlock, Lake, Lehman and Ross townships and Dallas Borough in Luzerne County.

Anyone with questions about this or any state government issue should contact Boback’s offices at (570) 675-6000 or (570) 836-4777.
