Boback Reacts to Governor’s Speech Opening Special Session on Transportation
Special session necessary due to federal rejection of plans to toll Interstate 80
Rep. Karen Boback (R-Columbia/Luzerne/Wyoming) released the following statement regarding the opening of Pennsylvania’s Special Session on Transportation and the governor’s comments:
“It is clear that we have a lot of work to do during this special session to address Pennsylvania’s transportation funding needs. There is no silver bullet option to provide the necessary $3.5 billion per year to adequately support safe roads, bridges and mass transit.
“One option I have a particular interest in is public-private partnerships to create cost savings. These partnerships would help to make transportation projects streamlined, efficient and economical.
“The governor mentioned other alternatives to the funding debacle. Some I agree with, others I adamantly oppose. Whatever the final menu of funding looks like, my vote will reflect my district. I am hopeful it will be comprehensive enough to fortify our vital system of highways and bridges and fair to Pennsylvania citizens.”
