Boback Issues Statement on Property Tax Amendment Vote
HARRISBURG – Following lengthy debate Tuesday on an amendment that would have inserted the language of House Bill 76, known as the Property Tax Independence Act, into House Bill 1189, Rep. Karen Boback (R-Columbia/Luzerne/Wyoming) issued the following statement:

“Property tax reform is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately. People across our state are losing their homes and seniors, who have worked their entire lives to be able to retire, are watching their savings dwindle and making tough choices between paying taxes and buying food and medicine.

“The amendment was not perfect, but the issues that were contained in the bill could have been addressed by subsequent amendments. Therefore, I voted in favor the House Bill 76 language to advance the discussion and debate about property tax reform.

Even though the amendment failed, I remain committed to the issue of property tax reform and a fairer form of funding education. I look forward to making our region’s voice heard in future discussions.”
